Food & Drink

In New York you can find just about everything and, when I say everything I mean it. Here you can find all the different kinds of food existent on planet Earth. Let’s say you are Italian, just like me, great food lovers and – of course – particularly demanding; you will probably go and look for some Italian restaurants serving your favourite Pasta dish with the right sauce, oil and some good red wine to match the food. WRONG! You are committing a huge mistake. You can find the Italian restaurants in Little Italy and all over the 5 boroughs but please, if you are Italian, do not go. First, and I say it mainly for foreigners, the best Italian food is in Italy, so come here to taste it; second and most important, in New York there are sooo many different kinds of cuisine that is absolutely a crime not to try all the wonderful tastes the city offers you: Mexican, Brazilian, Japanese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Indian, French, Lebanese, Greek and so on.

Even in this melting pot of food cultures do not forget to respect the American tradition. Do not miss the wonderful huge hamburgers, with huge French fries and huge glasses of coke and beer, possibly in the typical American pub full with hundreds of monitors showing different football and baseball matches. Make sure there’s a brand new rock group playing while you are eating and a pool table for the after dinner and you’ll have the whole experience. Do not think McDonald has anything to do with the American hamburger. It is actually American, but trust me, Americans have some of the best meat I have ever tasted and McDonald has nothing to do with it. I think it is crap for them as much as it is for everyone else (I know it tastes good, but trust me, eat in a real American restaurant and you’ll understand what I mean).

Last but not least, you can not leave New York without trying the Sunday tradition: brunch! It really is my favourite food tradition and even if it looks European in its manner it is not. You can have pancakes, waffles, French toast, eggs benedict, bacon, salmon, fruits, chocolate, maple syrup… You can choose whatever you want, sweet or savoury. You usually have it between 12am and 4pm; you just sit, eat and relax for a bit. Lovely uh?
